Adopt a Highway
Picking up someone else's garbage is no picnic, yet every year, hundreds of people happily volunteer to do just that. They're part of the Adopt-A-Highway program, an international volunteer litter clean-up program created to help make roadsides cleaner, safer and prettier.
The program is a fine example of state government working with citizens to improve the cleanliness and quality of life in communities.
The Adopt-A-Highway program is instrumental in fighting the increasing litter problem all around North America. Adopt-A-Highway volunteers save taxpayers approximately $4 million annually in roadway cleanup costs.
The Carson Graham Roots & Shoots Club have adopted an intersection of a Westview highway. And every once in a while we go there to clean up the garbage.
