30 Hour Famine
All over the world, there are young people who care about hunger, poverty, and injustice—and want to do something about it.
Participate in World Vision's 30 Hour Famine, and you can change the lives of children around the world.
The first 30 Hour Famine took place in Calgary, Alberta, 36 years ago, when a group of youths refused to sit back and do nothing about the famine in Ethiopia.
Today, almost 1.5 million teens in more than 15 countries participate in the 30 Hour Famine. This is your chance to join them.

Penny Drive and AIDS Awareness Day
During the Penny Drive and AIDS Awareness Day we have collected abotu $200 dollars that will proceed to the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa.
This money is going to be used to stock a medical clinic with antiretroviral and other kinds of drugs that will prevent HIV from spreading.
Thanks to everyone who have donated. It was really great to see how many red ribbons there were at school that day.

Socks for the City
Socks for the City was the Roots and Shoots an "undercover" project hidden behind the Student Council "Can/Money/Clothes Drive". First of all
good job everyone who have contributed; the challenge between Carson Graham Secondary and Seycove Secondary was tough, but in an equal battle our
school has gained the precious trofee (made out of cans :D). The clothes that were so generously donated by you will be given out to the homeless
in Vancouver. You have just made someone's day!
Operation Christmas Child
Today we have heard the heart touching presentation on an Operation Christmas Child from Irina. This is a very easy thing to do for all of
us and I strongly encourage everyone, who cares about children, to take part in it. Your present in a little shoe box will fly all around
the world to find that one special child who craves attention and care so badly. Your love and hope packed in a little shoe box will
spark with a smile on a child’s face – isn’t it the best reward you can get?

Gulu Walk
Sarah and Nicole took part in a Gulu Walk, which is focused on supporting abandoned children in northern Uganda. Right now there is so much everyone can do to provide an education and a better future of the Acholi children. In my opinion, it was an incredible thing that girls did: they raised about 100 dollars per person with the help of Alex and walked all the way from Trout Lake in Burnaby to the downtown of Vancouver.
We wish that next year more people will take a part in this project with a great cause.

Adopt a Highway
On this sunny day we went to clean up the intersection of Westview highway. It was a wonderful workout for all of us. We have
collected 4 bags of garbage and an amazingly positive feedback from community. Among the odd things we found were a pair of socks and a dead racoon.

The day was fullfilled with lots of events. During the D block Carson Graham welcomed "Cops for Cancer" and then all of the students took part in the Terry Fox run. We have raised $800
which will be donated to the breast cancer research foundation. But the main hightlight of the day for Roots and Shoots members was the Peace Day 2006 project.
